Several members had really interesting pieces for the April Show and Tell. Lots of sculpting going on, too: Lucia creating images of her grandchildren, Elaine & Judy making dog and cat sculptures for an Animal Rescue group's fund-raising events. That, and many of our CAC members getting their pieces ready for the annual Pit Fire. Never a dull moment!
Wow, the month went by so fast. Time flies, as they say, whether you're having fun or not. But luckily we have been having fun! And here are a few snapshots to prove it.
Plenty of fun going on in our studio - people making fountains, sculpting, making gifts. Never a dull moment!
First off - some snapshots from the Rossmoor Fall Bazaar (on November 1), which was a fabulous and resounding success for the CAC. We had even better sales than last year, and everyone commented on how beautiful our studio looked. Most important, everyone involved had fun and felt great about it. Kudos to Patty and Betty, our fearless leaders!
Here are some miscellaneous photos: two from our last Show and Tell, Lucia beside a display of her beautiful ceramic artwork currently being shown in a gallery in San Ramon, and Ellen Sachtschale holding up a pot she'd just made in the last session of her Garden Art class.
Last weekend we unveiled the almost 100 ceramic pieces we'd made to celebrate Rossmoor's 50th Anniversary, and we had an Open Studio for both days. Below is a photo of the display as it was laid out the day before, and also some pictures of CAC members showing their own work over the weekend. Many of the commemorative pieces were sold, making a tidy sum for our club!* Several of the participating members also did well, and it was overall a very successful endeavor.
It's also a good prelude to the yearly Rossmoor Fall Bazaar, when we will be offering some of best work done by our members, as a major fund-raiser for the Ceramic Arts Club. That will be happening on Saturday, November 1, from 9 am to 2 pm. Mark your calendar!
*P.S. There are still several of the Rossmoor commemorative pieces available - feel free to come into the studio to browse and shop any time!
Here are our new window displays - they look much better in person, due to the glass reflections that happen in photographs. As you can see, our theme this time is Animals, and we have quite a sculptural menagerie: horses, goats, dogs, cats, mice, birds, etc. (Click on the images to see larger versions of them.) Please come on down and check them out soon! This display will be up through the end of this month.. in early October we'll be on to something different.
Below are snapshots of just a few of the commemorative ceramic pieces our club's been busy making to celebrate Rossmoor's 50th anniversary. These and many others will be offered for sale during our Open Studio days on the weekend of September 20 & 21 - we'll be there from 9 to 4 each of those days - please stop by!
And if any CAC member would like to show & sell his or her own work that weekend, come to the studio and sign up (it's free) - more info under Events on this website.
Last week the display at the Rossmoor Event Center was changed. Here are 2 views of the niches in the front foyer of the building as they are now. As you can see, CAC has 6 pieces displayed in the top two rows (the bottom row has photos from the Photography Club).
[Note - you can always click on an image to see it larger!]
Fred, one of our master potters, recently was commissioned by another Rossmoorian named Roger to make 6 mugs with faces on them. Here they are, the day Roger came by to pick them up (Fred is on the right). Obviously they were both quite pleased with the result!
When the Event Center opened late last year our club was able to display 5 ceramic pieces by our members in the group of 9 niches in the front foyer of the building. The photo on the left shows them - they are arranged in a "T" formation. When the display was changed in April, this time the CAC was allotted 6 spaces: the top 2 rows - this is shown in the right hand picture. (NOTE: to see a larger view of any picture just click on it.)
Next week the Event Center display will be changed again - watch this space for more about that! But of course nothing is as good as seeing it in person, so be sure to stop by for a look when you are in the area!
P.S. Any member of the CAC may submit up to three pieces to be considered for the Event Center display; an announcement to this effect is made 6 or more weeks before the selection process. The choice of which pieces are to be displayed is then made by an outside ceramic artist (not a CAC member).
Our Show and Tell last Friday was great - we had a lot of interesting work and some lively discussions. (We have a Show and Tell session on the last Friday of every month, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. - everybody is welcome to participate, or just watch.)
As you can see there's been a lot of wonderful pottery produced in the CAC studio lately, both wheel-thrown and hand-built!
As you can see from these pictures, we've been having fun and making some interesting things lately! (Note - you can click on any picture for a larger view of it.)
