Chinese Dumpling Party - a wonderful event!

3/1/2023

We had the most wonderful Chinese Dumpling Party on Monday, February 27 in the Vista Room (at the Hillside Clubhouse) from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. This was spearheaded by our own Theresa Kuo, who formed the CAC Dumpling (Jiaozi) Team - Lucia, Lily, Lisa, Josephine, Beverly, Pamela, Diane. These 8 fabulous ladies brought all the fillings and dumpling wrappers, then they proceeded to teach dozens of enthusiastic CAC members how to wrap the dumplings -  there were over 700 dumplings for about 55 people!! These delicious tidbits were carefully cooked by the Team, then served to all participants., accompanied by various dipping sauces - YUM! And afterwards there was also a selection of desserts available (courtesy of several other CAC volunteers).
The main focus was to have fun and socialize (especially with the new members from the recent Orientation Class) over a non-clay medium.  In the process we all learned that if you can work with clay, you can wrap Chinese dumplings with your own (clean) hands. It was lots of fun - a resounding success!

A shout out to all of the volunteers who agreed to set up/clean up, register people as they arrived, collect the $5 donations, bring desserts, etc. And especially to the CAC Dumpling (Jiaozi) Team: Lucia, Lily, Lisa, Josephine, Beverly, Pamela, Diane and Theresa.  (FYI, a generic dumpling recipe will be made available at a later date. )

Our one-and-only Orientation Class of 2022 started in mid May and ended on the 8th of June, when we welcomed 16 brand new members to the Ceramic Arts Club. As usual, Linda Mariano led the class, assisted by numerous other CAC volunteers. What a great group!
Then on June 29 we had a marvelous Patio Party with a festive Mexican theme.

Patio Party on June 18, 2021 - Aloha!

We had a wonderful Patio Party with a Hawaiian theme, organized by Linda Mariano and  Mary Ann Stanley with the help of numerous other hard-working and enthusiastic volunteers. Kathy Jepson did a great job with the refreshments - lots of appetizers, finger-food, and desserts, plus wine, lemonade and sparkling water. Judy Russell was in charge of entertainment, including a Hawaiian themed Jeopardy game as well as music and dance courtesy of  Rossmoor's Hawaii Club and the Ukulele Club. Quite a lot of our members even got up to learn a couple of hula dances, which was a lot of fun!

It was marvelous to celebrate with our members and their guests, after such a difficult time with the pandemic shut-down. Especially as we were about to have the studio shut down again to be remodeled. As you can see, everyone really enjoyed being together in person at last!

Below are some photos of the festive event taken by various CAC folks who were there.
You can also see a slideshow on YouTube that includes several video clips from the party. This is meant for our members only - it's not available to the general public. (Note: it runs about 7 minutes.) To watch it, click on this LINK: https://youtu.be/WCgH6MZ7oSc

Patio Party - highlights

Our Patio Party was last week, Friday the 17th. Lots of fun! We had awards, flowers on every table, great company and delicious food - kudos to Sara Spence and Jean Chen for putting it all together so well! And then, as the cherry on top, there was live music & dancing, courtesy of Rossmoor's Recreation Department (this latter was for anyone at Rossmoor plus any guests); the band was Bee Gees Gold, a tribute band doing excellent versions of disco hits from the 60s thru the 90s. Many CAC folks (including my self) stayed and danced or listened & watched until around 8:30.

The photos in the slideshow below were taken by our own Jean Chen, who is very talented in photography as well as ceramics!
